Chapter Ten :

It Was Better In The Morning /

A cloudy pink-ish sunlight streaming through my room window woke me up. It was eight A.M., and I slept well despite last night's event. I was feeling okay until I remembered what had happened yesterday.

After putting on a light green sundress, brushing my teeth, and pulling my hair back into a ponytail, I went downstairs to check on Dolion.

It was sleeping; leaned back on the sofa and completely still except for the soft rise and fall of its chest. A calm and empty expression resided on its pale, thin face. I moved closer to examine its wounds, which were now... Gone.

Not even a slight trace of a scar existed on its lean, muscular abdomen. When I looked back up at its face, its silver eyes were open and awake. "How did you sleep?" It asked me.

I clenched my teeth and blew air out from them. "Fine,..." I replied. "But how did you do that? Completely heal? There's no scars or marks left - that's impossible." Dolion shrugged. "I've always been able to do that. My species have this capability; we can heal relatively quickly as long as the damage isn't too severe."

I glanced over at my parents sitting like concrete blocks on the couch. "All right, I'm getting breakfast." I stated. I was terribly hungry because of skipping lunch and dinner the day before. And anyways, after breakfast, I had more information to look for.

I ate some fruit, had two bowls of cereal ( Don't ask me how the milk hasn't spoiled yet, since I seriously have no idea. ), and then began again what I've been doing the past few days. Trying to figure out how to save the world.

"Wait," I told Dolion as we stood outside my house. "You can't fly, but there is another way to travel longer distances, other than walking. We can drive one of my parents' cars." Dolion's face was blank. "Oh, don't tell me that you don't know how to drive," I complained. "My realm doesn't have cars, or any other vehicle for that matter." It retorted.

I thought for awhile. "It's illegal, but who's alive enough to arrest me? I'm just going to attempt to save everybody by breaking the law. Wonderful." I went into the house to grab my mom's car keys.

I relaxed my shoulders as I sat in the driver's seat. My left hand gripped the steering wheel and I put the key in the ignition, and... Nothing? I turned the key a couple times, then five times. Dead silence, not even the noise of a dead battery or an engine failing to start. "WHAT?!" I yelled. Dolion calmly stared at me.

I ran back into the house to get my dad's keys , and two minutes later, it was the same thing. Neither of the cars would start. "But nothing was wrong with my parents' vehicles," I grumbled. I kicked the car door shut and threw the car keys up into a tree.

A rumbling came from the road that went past my house. "UGH, WHAT NOW?!" I hollered irritably. The rumbling became louder and louder, shaking the ground a bit. It actually kind of sounded like... A stampede?

Chapter Thirty Three  :   Betrayal  /  My breathing was slow and delayed; I was underwater, sucking gallons and gallons of water into my lungs. " Lavender, " Came my mother's gentle voice, comforting like a pillow.  " Lavender, " Was my father's voice, strong and reassuring like an oak tree.  " Lavender. " Orpheus's soft voice, waking me up. I opened my eyes, everything was blurry for a few seconds. I wasn't underwater, but laying sideways on the concrete in the town. Ropes bound my hands and feet. Orpheus was chained to the ground beside me, twitching nervously. I couldn't stand looking into his sorrowful gleaming blue eyes anymore, so I turned my face skywards.  The enormous carmine moon shone down upon everything, casting a bloody glow on it all. Most of the dark clouds had cleared by now, and countless planets and stars of every hue were visible in the sky.  Glancing around, the city seemed dead. The strange, gorgeous plants withere...
Chapter One  : Meet Lavender  / I live in a huge, old Victorian house outside of a small town in Idaho. A lot of other kids have told me that my home is ugly and creepy, and I say otherwise. It's a two story house, containing 3 bedrooms, the living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a mostly empty basement. None of the latter is what makes me love my house.  It's the beautiful fragrant dark brown pine wood that makes up the walls, the gray cold stone floor in the basement, the smooth oak wood flooring on the top two levels, the sharply shaped triangular roofs, the wraparound porch with chairs and potted plants that flower and vine around the railings, and lastly, the big clear glass windows that let me see the outside world. But that's just why I love my HOUSE.  The absolute best part is the seemingly endless forest in my backyard. Ever since I could walk and talk and comprehend things, I was in that forest - walking, running, adventuring, exploring, lookin...
Acknowledgements : My everyday life, the dream world and the waking one. Imagination is very powerful, and I believe that's what'll get you anywhere in life. I feel like a few books I've previously read encouraged my writing experience and process. Art from paintings and digital games sparked some inspiration.  A thanks to my family, because they encouraged me to write this. This novel was started for a writing project in my school. I took it a lot farther than that, obviously. I've never been a basic person.  As for chapter eleven, I'm happy to give credit to some random cow on a bridge on a trail that I hate. The trail, not the cow. My imagination did the rest. Pushing through writer's block has taught me a lot about my own life. I have to do things I don't want to, if I want a good outcome from the bad.   The human mind is a very puzzling thing, an inpenetrable fortress but also an unguarded wasteland. To rule over anything in life, you have to learn ho...
