Chapter Nine  :  Finding The Enemy /  I decided not to ask any more about it, since Dolion clearly seemed uncomfortable about not being able to fly. But I couldn't help but feel that something was... Off, I guess, because its wings were fine. More than fine. Nothing compared to the damage done to Orpheus's wings. Oh! About that. "Um..." I began, not sure how to explain this. "Do you know of a creature named 'Orpheus'?" Silence.  I turned to look at Dolion, and I saw what I thought might be anger in its eyes. "Orpheus is a wretched Engel, from the underground realm. He caused the death of many of us. And besides that, he wants all the humans to perish. Why?" The words were awful, but rolling off its tongue like honey.  I hesitated before answering. "Because... He's here ."  A black feather blew past us in the wind. Dolion pulled a knife from the sheath on its belt, stepping in front of me. I couldn't see much from behind i...
Chapter Eight  : Explanation /  "Prophecy?" I questioned. "What prophecy?"  Dolion drew a small tattered book from its pocket, handing it to me. I read a bit from the first paragraph :  "After hundreds of lifetimes, the world you know will fall. Otherworld realms will merge with the human realm, impossible things will happen, and no one will be alive enough to see it all. No one but one, a human named Lavender. All the otherworld realms will know her instantly by her face. Very few will come to help her save the human world; most WILL deceive her. If the wrong side succeeds, earth will fall forever, into a deep sleep, never to be awoken. " "What!?" I yelled. "Why didn't I, or anyone else, have this warning?"  "Because your world never possessed this book," Dolion stated. "Someone also kept it from a few of the otherworld realms, so they weren't prepared either."  "You know what, it doesn't really ma...
Chapter Seven  :  When I Didn't Think It Could Get Any Worse  /  When I was almost completely sure Orpheus was gone, I creeped out from the bushes and dashed back into the house. Its footprints were trailed through the kitchen, dining room, upstairs, down the hallway, and... Into my room.  I quietly stepped into my room, cautiously watching my surroundings. At first, I thought there was nothing ( Except for the few scattered feathers and footprints ). But as I took more time to examine it all, I noticed that my desk drawers were slightly opened. When I looked inside the drawers, I found them empty. All my journals and papers, things I had written... Gone. Apart from that, everything else seemed untouched.  I wanted to go back to sleep because now it was 4:38 in the morning and I was entirely worn out, but I wasn't sure whether I was safe to close my eyes and rest or not.  As I walked down the stairs, I double checked that everything in the house, inclu...
Chapter Six  :  Three In The Morning / I was awoken by some awful noise, a cross between screaming and... Growling, like I'd imagined a monster would sound. The glowing numbers on my alarm clock said 3:00 A.M.. I slowly got up out of my bed, and stepped as quietly as possible across my room, to the window. Now there were only two moons in the sky, both flooding a blood-like gleam over everything. All I could see were the dark blue treetops swaying, reddish pink clouds floating in the sky, and the long grass stirring.  The noise was now softly fading, and a low bass-like noise replaced it. I could feel vibrations coming from the ground; it even affected the house. I wandered downstairs and then outside, confused. I had no idea what was going in general, much less about what was going on right now. Then I heard it again - the scream-growling. And whatever it was, was getting closer.  I ran and hid in the cluster of bushes that grew in front of the deck, waiting. My br...
Chapter Five : Investigating The Town / After filling my water bottle with some ice water, I changed into a pastel green T shirt and bleached blue jean cutoffs. I put on my white high tops and set off for town. The walk only took about seven minutes, and the heat was tolerable since it wasn't high noon yet.  When I first set foot on the town road pavement, a horrid feeling filled my body. It was inhuman fear and terror and panic and at the same time an unexplainable emptiness, like a black hole. I walked slowly past houses and little stores, trying to shake off what I felt. I looked into some of the houses and could see people gathered around their televisions, with the exact same hollowness in their eyes as my parents'. I could hear and feel a warped hum coming from the houses, almost like some weird hypnosis.  I spent hours here, and now I was feeling hungry again, and the sun was starting to set. I still hadn't found any reason behind what was going on, but I still obs...
Chapter Four :  Back Home  / During the walk back, I contemplated all that the deer had said. None of it really made any sense, but I had this feeling that the deer was telling me some kind of truth. What was even more confusing, I had no idea what  I was to do; how would I save everyone? And what am I saving them from? I know everyone seems to be frozen in time, but why ?  Around me, the supernatural part of the woods faded and colors became dull and sinister looking. The trees and grass and everything had become all different shades of gray, like the life had been sucked out of them.  I don't remember how long the walk back took since I didn't have a way to tell time, but it felt like hours. My feet were dragging, the air felt insanely heavy, and even though it was the forest I'd always known, I didn't feel at peace anymore. I thought there were eyes watching me, in the trees.  Out of breath and exhausted, I finally reached home. "Hello?" I called as I o...
Chapter Three : What's In The Forest...?  / As I followed the deer farther into the woods, I noticed that everything around me was changing.  The trees were losing leaves, turning darker colors and withering. The grass was becoming a teal color, and it felt sharp against the soles of my sneakers. The rocks were all kinds of colors, and they were seeming to glow. But as we came to a clearing, the sky was what changed the most - It was such a deep navy and purple color, with red and magenta streaked across like northern lights. It held stars that glowed orange, and huge moons in all colors. My breath caught in the back of my throat as I realized that what I was seeing was real. Beside me, the deer gazed into the sky, too. It was looking at me with eyes that glowed steel blue, and I was suddenly uncomfortable. Its eyes weren't blue before...  "We need your help," it rasped. My mind froze. "Deer can't talk," I stated warily. "I can," it interjected...
Chapter Two  : The Day Things Started To Change  / Today after school, I walked home - which isn't unusual for me because I almost always walk; riding the bus just gives the other kids more time to mouth off to me. But while I was walking past town, I noticed that almost no one was outside. No children playing in their yards, no one sitting on their decks, no one driving vehicles or biking down the sidewalks or anything... Town wasn't normally this quiet - standing there, I could hear only bugs chirping and the breeze rustling the grass and trees. I kept walking home.  When I got home, my parents were sitting at the kitchen table. My father was doing some paperwork and my mother was reading a book. How was school? They asked me. Fine, I replied, and handed them my papers. What's going on in town? I asked. What do you mean? My mom questioned. There's no one outside - like they all disappeared, I stated. They're probably all in their houses, my father said. You know h...
Chapter One  : Meet Lavender  / I live in a huge, old Victorian house outside of a small town in Idaho. A lot of other kids have told me that my home is ugly and creepy, and I say otherwise. Its a two story house, containing 3 bedrooms, the living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a mostly empty basement. None of the latter is what makes me love my house.  Its the beautiful fragrant dark brown pine wood that makes up the walls, the gray cold stone floor in the basement, the smooth oak wood flooring on the top two levels, the sharply shaped triangular roofs, the wraparound porch with chairs and potted plants that flower and vine around the railings, and lastly, the big clear glass windows that let me see the outside world. But that's just why I love my HOUSE.  The absolute best part is the seemingly endless forest in my backyard. Ever since I could walk and talk and comprehend things, I was in that forest - walking, running, adventuring, exploring, looking ...
